On Repeat #5 – Half Moon Run

Standard

I don’t play video games but a friend insisted I watch a trailer for a game he was excited about (Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag) and while the trailer was cool and all what really grabbed my attention was the song playing during it. I asked him if he knew what it was and he found out for me.

Half Moon Run is a Canadian indie rock band although I don’t know where the “rock” part comes in because this band has been likened to Band of Horses and Fleet Foxes. They’ve definitely got that chill vibe, perfect for summer bonfires and lazy days that need a mellow soundtrack. Their sounds have been described as atmospheric and emotional and in general, the reviews say their debut album (Dark Eyes from 2012) is a pretty solid effort.

“Full Circle” is the song I like most but you might have also heard “Call Me In The Afternoon” which is their 2013 single. Rolling Stone magazine named them “a band to watch” in 2013. They’ve opened for Of Monsters and Men, City and Color, Mumford & Sons and Metric.
